Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when a pelvic organ, such as your bladder, drops and pushes against the vaginal walls. This can occur when the muscles that hold your pelvic organs in place get weak or stretched from childbirth or surgery.

Treatment will depend on which of your pelvic organs have prolapsed and the severity of your symptoms. If preliminary lifestyle changes (Kegel exercises, cutting back on caffeine, maintaining a healthy weight, etc.) don’t help your symptoms, then surgery is an option. Organ prolapse surgery is typically a minimally-invasive procedure. The procedures vary with different types of organ prolapse.
