Tubal Sterilization
Tubal Sterilization
is a form of birth control and is meant to be permanent. During the procedure, your health care provider will close, or block, you fallopian tubes. Closing the tubes can be done in several ways. The first method is by tying and cutting the tubes – this is called tubal ligation. The fallopian tubes also can be sealed using an instrument with an electrical current. They also can be closed with clips, clamps, or rings. Sometimes, tiny inserts are put in the tubes, causing tissue to grow around them and block the tubes.
Essure, Permanent Birth Control
The Essure system includes two small coils that are placed in the fallopian tubes through the vagina, so no incision is required. Scar tissue then forms around the coils, blocking off the fallopian tubes and preventing sperm from reaching the egg. Most women go home within 45 minutes and return to normal activities in less than a day.
